Popeye the Saintly Man?
For starters, a very Happy New Year to all of you lovely people out there! I hope everyone is taking the steps towards accomplishing their 'resolutions' or goals for those that do not agree with the term 'resolution'. I've been slowly working towards spiritual growth and deepening my relationship with God, and I actually do that through a way most Christian followers may consider unorthodox--by watching Popeye the Sailor cartoons.
Now, I'm fairly certain that you guys reading this just said : "what the heck?? How is that even possible??" Well, let me explain--Popeye reminds me of God, Bluto is Satan and Olive Oyl is a human that follows but often finds herself in sticky situations because she chose to follow her own desires and wants, instead of remaining faithful to Popeye. Then, as many of us may know, Popeye and Bluto fight, Bluto knocks Popeye out thinking that he's out of the game , Popeye eats his well-known handy can o' spinach and ultimately defeats Bluto at his own game, saving Olive in the process.
I never would've guessed that something as childlike as a cartoon that was released about 60 years before I was even thought of being conceived would show me just how gracious and merciful God really is. Think about it: no matter how many times Olive Oyl strays and ends up in a jam, Popeye always does his best to save her and be there for her right on time. Doesn't God do that very same thing with us sinners?? YES, absolutely! I don't know about you all, but He certainly brings me through life's storms and low valleys, even if I do virtually nothing to show that I deserve them. There's been MANY days where I've questioned and worried myself sick about if God would come through for me, if He would just decide to leave me there and let me suffer. But never has HE done such a thing! Never has He left me alone, made me carry all of my struggles (though I do sometimes try and fail miserably lol), or turn his back on me. If I need Him, I can just call out His name and He'll come running to me! I guess you could say in a way that God is my "Popeye" and I'm his "Olive Oyl"--despite how many times I turn away from Him, God will never hesitate to bring me back home to Him and remind me of how undeserving I am of His love, grace and mercy ♥.
Well, I hope that this post is a blessing to somebody out there :) yes, it's a little odd, but I felt the need to share what God had given me. Feel free to comment, like and share with your friends!!
Also, if you even need someone to talk to about anything in the world, you can email me at thomas.jazmine@gmail.com :) be blessed!
