Natural Hair Spotlight Series: Moisture Balance
Hola, readers!! Guess what time it is?? If you guessed Spotlight Series Time, you'd be correct!! As standard procedure, if you're totally new to my blog/missed the last or any episodes, jump right over here to catch up!
Now, this one will be slightly different. Remember when I did ones generated towards natural hair like forever ago??? Well, I decided to bring it back in full swing, starting off with my special guest, Kimberly Northcutt-Giles!! Kimberly is the proprietor/owner of Moisture Balance, one of many companies that focuses on offering quality hair care products with nothing but natural ingredients, which can be very tough to do in today's world. I had first heard of Moisture Balance in 2013 via a now defunct hair care subscription company (kinda like curlBOX and Curlkit, but not as pricey) had been searching for 250 beta testers---meaning 250 people would receive a box full of sample size products to try out . Since I was newly natural at the time, and I love free stuff, I jumped ALL the way on it! One product that I received was the Styling Custard from this company and long story short, I LOVE IT! I actually need to repurchase some more because I'm finally nearing the end of my jar :(
But back to our special guest! Kim, care to share with us?:

Please tell us what prompted you to start Moisture Balance.
It started when I figured out that my hair was protein sensitive. I was looking for a styling product to use for my wash and go that had little to no protein in it. I found a few, but they were not quite right for my hair. Since I am a DIY kind of girl, I started doing research on how to make hair gel.
What Was Your Initial Career Goal?
Moisture Balance at this time my part-time job. In time I would love to make this my only job. Currently I will spend days off from my full-time making product and filling orders
.
Has that changed from what you are currently doing?
If someone had told by me that I would have a business making hair care products, I would have thought they were nuts. If fact, after a made my first product, my husband said I should sale it. I did look at him like he had lost his mind. I work 40+ at my full-time job.
What inspired your product? Or how did you get your start?
My need for products made from natural ingredients that worked on my hair.
Describe a typical day.
That is difficult to answer since this something I do part-time. But I can spend a day making product, taking pictures of product, making labels or testing new product ideas.
If you could describe Moisture Balance in one word, what would it be?
Fun, I know that sounds crazy, but it is. I have fun making the products and trying new things
What suggestions do you have for aspiring business owners?
First, if you LOVE what you do, all of the craziness that comes with owning a business is all worth it.
Second, I plan and organize by making list. This simple thing makes everything so much easier
.
What keeps you grounded?
My faith and my husband
Where do you see Moisture Balance in the future?
I would love to see the line in stores one day.
Tell me a little bit about your natural hair journey.
I started my first journey back in 2004. I transitioned for two years. I remember doing my hair and becoming really frustrated due to the two different textures. I gave up and had my hair relaxed. I should have just cut it off, but hind sight is 20/20. After relaxing, a few months into it, my hair started breaking off. I went back to my stylist at the time, had a couple of protein treatment, and a haircut. That was in 2007 and I have been natural ever since.
what product are you the most proud of?
The Styling Custard. It was my first product and it’s my best seller.
What makes Moisture Balance different from other natural hair care lines?
I would say my location. The number one reason I started the company was due to the lack of natural hair products in the Pacific Northwest.
Where can we find you on social media?
Thank you so much, Kimberly, for sharing Moisture Balance with the rest of us!! Seriously guys, go check out her business! You will NOT regret it! I plan on hopefully reviewing the Styling Custard in depth on my beauty blog, which you can go check out here!!
