Affair of the '70s
Days spent singing songs in the key of life, wild and crazy nights in our boogie wonderland.
Who'd have thought a little boy living in the city and a little girl who desperately dreamed of becoming a superwoman would one day fall in love?
During a sweltering 4th of July in '75, her pretty brown eyes chancely locked with his across the black water that filled the park's pond.
The orange and pink hues of the sunset kissed his skin ever so softly, while forming a brightening glow 'round hers.
That one look lead to intertwined fingers, long Cadillac adventures down Ventura Highway, fire and desire dripping heavy as she became a well oiled love machine, riding her stallion and love water tainting him with her unique aroma
The 21st night of September became their love's holiday. Their unspoken ethereal visions colliding faster than James Dean crashing his beloved Mustang.
He offered her a million and one reasons to make her smile ; she found as many fears to keep her from falling.
One hand, she knew she was tired of being alone. Many a nights by the black orchids under the beaming stars, crying to Spirit the deep desire of love and happiness.
Yet she remained scared of reaching too high a peak on their budding love rollercoaster. She chose to grow as cold as ice, pulling away her affections till he was standing all alone wondering "Have you seen her?"
In passing weeks to months, he'd offered just a touch of love to other women that desired his last name and title, yet could never forget his golden lady with a love sweeter than the purest honey.
Almost one year to the day since their first meeting, he saw her out once again. He vowed to show and tell her like before that his love was indeed no fantasy, no matter how long or much of a fight he had to face.
And. man, did she fight him. Though exterior hardened like cement, that familiar feeling of love was slowly creepin' in until she was powerless to its effects.
Under familiar stars by the black water, she weepily whispered,
"If I let you in, don't go breaking my heart. I've had so much work to do trying to heal & I should've been more upfront and clear. Truth is, I've not been able to to escape your impact. In your arms, I feel at home. When you kiss me, it's like I take a voyage to Atlantis that I never want to return from. I'd hear footsteps in the dark , hoping silently that it was you coming back for me, each time bitterly disapp----"
He placed his slender pointer over her full glossy lips, then stated:
"You haven't done nothin' to make me cease the flame that burns in my heart for you. Even in trying to seek replacements, nothing......NOBODY compares to you, my queen. In a field of daisies, you're my bright sunflower. I only want to pick you, help you grow, take care and pride in you alone. What I'm saying is.....I love you."
To hear his statement so secure, so confident....She asked her conscience, "Could it be I'm falling in love? Like actual, true, no hiding behind my walls love?" As the cooling summer breeze hits their faces, her mouth connected with his, a joy filling her entire being like never before.
Breathlessly, they gazed into each others eyes and then looked into the night, taking pleasure and comfort that their souls were finally reunited.
