If I Could Ask Michael Anything...
Hello, beautiful people! So, today is slightly bittersweet for me. I was debating on doing another post about Michael on the blog for the longest, but I figured, what better day to do it on than his birthday?? So, as many of you may or may not know, I'm a HUGE admirer of Michael Joseph Jackson--his talent, persona, physical beauty, everything essentially. And you can imagine that my heart was crushed to pieces by his unexpected passing in June 2009. For once, the world seemed to just stand still for a bit, then crash to the ground like the Twin Towers. Personally, I never got to meet Michael and I'd be lying if I said I'm not sad that I don't get to in the physical sense. So, I decided to spend today really thinking about what I would ask him if I had gotten a chance to. And I've decided on a few things:
1) Who would he be without music?? Many great entertainers are in the business because of the deep love they share for their chosen craft. You could definitely sense that with Michael when it came to music and dancing. In both, it seemed as if he had become this fearless being, almost as if he was untouchable. But sometimes, I wonder what kind of person he would have been if he chose not to pursue music?? What path would he have chosen?? Would his persona in the music industry have been as powerful in some other field?
2)What did he feel was his best/worst performance?? As a literal artist, I often go through things I posted on my blog, my Facebook, as well as my mini mountain of notebooks and re-read them. Often I look at pieces and think " Wow, that was something I really loved writing!" or "Eh......this wasn't exactly my best." I think any artist would be lying to you if they said that they don't critique their own work. Simply put, we're our biggest fans and our worst enemies all in one. I wonder what Michael thought what was the best he had ever done and what was the worst?? As many members of the Moonwalker fandom know, Michael was definitely a perfectionist. He never believed in putting out a work that wasn't just right. Easily he had taken in our critiques, but it would've been lovely to just hear his own perspective about his work--what he would and wouldn't change.
3) How would he describe what he had accomplished in one word?? It's hard to choose simply one word to sum up the totality of a person's craft, both the highs and the lows. I wonder what word would Michael have used?? Would it be positive? Negative? In-between?
Those are just a few things that I wonder how Michael would've answered if given the chance. but one thing I am certain of it this: regardless of the what ifs, the coulds/shoulda/woulda's, the why and why not's that surround this one man's presence, I do not have to wonder about this : Michael holds a very special place in my heart. A timeless connection that only his spirit and mine will understand, envelope and mail it to the post office of the heavens. I love you, Michael Joseph , forever and always. And I hope you spend your 56th year surrounded by the angels and more love you could ever fully comprehend.
*before I go, I leave with one of my favorite Michael ballads. It honestly speaks to the very fibers that make up my soul. Hopefully, you'll in love with it just like I did :)
