The Silver Lining in My Storm Cloud

Fall Break is usually seen as a small piece of relaxation , a bit of mid semester freedom, or in my case: a smack in the face from reality to be more appreciative. See, I've been in two very terrible car accidents within the past 30 days. Add that with the stress of homework and a dwindling bank account and you've got the perfect storm , in my eyes. Yesterday, I had had enough of the sucker punches life threw at me, so I reached out to an anonymous friend. The advice that she had given me was to not dwell on the losses, but focus on what I could gain from these experiences. So, I did, long and hard. I had let my anger filled guard down and really poured my heart out to God, to show me what I still had left in me. And you know what? HE answered, through a video interview of one of the greatest filmmakers of my time, Tyler Perry. The vulnerability that he possessed brought tears to my eyes. Here I was , mad and complaining over a piece of metal that was bound to break down and rust away over time while this adult man spoke about his struggles with abuse and domestic violence, searching for a way out. In that moment, it finally clicked to me: I owned so much more than what I had lost in these tragic events.I may not have a car to drive currently, but I have the ability to walk and see and experience life one more day. Something that is irreplaceable and cherished.
So, remember kids: It's not about how many good things you have in your life, but how much you appreciate those good things when those little bumps in your road come along.
Keep Smiling :)
